After scanning many related forum or google, you are told to add the MPEG2 codec (available from Apple for some small cost) to your system.
Solution one: QuickTime MPEG-2
Until you purchased the QuickTime MPEG-2 component. You find you can play the footage recorded in Sony DCR-SR68 HD without sound output. But iMovie still could not recognize the recorded formats, thus importing nothing!
Solution two: Install MPEG Streamclip (free).
Download the FREE MPEG Streamclip software(Google it or you can find it on the Apple website).
Purchase the £15 MPEG-2 Playback software through Apple (which is used by the MPEG Streamclip software).
Plug in the USB cable and turn on the camcorder. The camcorder will show up on your desktop .
Copy all files from your camcorder into another desktop folder.
“Open Files” in MPEG Streamclip one at a time. You will have to watch all the files in their entirety.
“Export to Quicktime” all files after watching. This will save your new .MOV file in the same desktop folder.
With iMovies open, go to File > Import Movies > then search for the desktop folder and select one of the files ending in .Mov.
Solution Three: Directly buy a Sony Cam Video Converter for Mac.
If you are boring with the solution two: need watch all files when open every time; somewhat waste of time; caring the video export quality and resolution changes for the free software common failing. You can try the professional commercial software: it enables you to convert Sony DCR modes listed in the support iMovie list but have problem in practical operation or not listed model like Sony DCR-SR50, or Sony HDC AVCHD camcorders MPEG-2, .M2TS directly to iMovie .MOV, just need 1. import the one your need convert to program, 2. set iMovie output, 3. begin to convert Sony DCR Video to iMovie, then the Sony DCR Mpeg-2, HDR .M2TS is being converted to .MOV which can be directly imported to iMovie. Of course, if you have more Mac compatibility require like: FCPX, FCE, iPad, iPhone, iDVD, all these exporting formats are supported in the program, that means it’s a all-in-one Sony Video to Mac Converter, see the screen shot:
Thanks for sharing your info. I really appreciate your efforts and I will be waiting for your further write ups thanks once again.
